Put the FUN in your Girls’ Night In fundraiser!

Getting together for a good cause doesn’t need to be elaborate, crazy or hard... in fact we’re here to show you just how easy it can be!Getting together for a good cause doesn’t need to be elaborate, crazy or hard... in fact we’re here to show you just how easy it can be!

Hosting a Girls’ Night In and fundraising for Cancer Council SA is all about doing what works for you, while making a difference, so don’t worry about how many people are getting involved or how little you think your event will raise. Just remember that sisters helping sisters is a powerful thing—we’re all in it together and every dollar makes a difference.

Here are some of our simple fundraising ideas, with some added inspiration:

1 – Like reading? Host a book club and ask the girls to donate as an entry fee. Here are some classic book suggestions you read before the event and then enjoy discussing over a lovely cuppa tea:

  • Little Women
  • The Help
  • Men Explain Things to Me
  • Pride and Prejudice
  • The Book Thief

2 – Schedule a little self-love. We all need a little time out to take care of ourselves. Why not invite friends, family and colleagues over to have a bit of DIY PJ pamper party and donate what you would have spent at a salon. Try these fun and simple pamper ideas to do in front of the TV:

  • Manicure – Get your favourite nail polish colour and paint away!
  • Pedicure – Fill some tubs with some host soapy water and give your feet a relaxing soak.
  • Facial and face masks – Grab some face masks from the shop and hand them out—or get creative and make your own!
  • Practice make up techniques – Share your tips and knowledge on getting the right look.

3 – Get together for a game's night with the girls. Whether it’s a classic board game, bingo or a quiz with a twist, set up the table, prepare the snacks and ask everyone to donate to join or even make it fun by setting ‘fines’ over the night for things like ‘first person to roll snake eyes, pay $5’.

4 – If movies are more your thing, host a movie night. Put the popcorn in the microwave and find a comfy spot to sit and get watching one, or a marathon of movies. Raise funds by ‘selling’ tickets to your event. Here are some of our top movie choices:

  1. Sex and the City
  2. Pretty Woman
  3. P.S. I Love You
  4. Bridesmaids
  5. 10 Things I Hate About You
  6. Pitch Perfect
  7. Mamma Mia!
  8. The Devil Wears Prada
  9. Easy A
  10. Romy and Michele’s High School Reunion

5 – Show off your cooking skills and have a dinner party at home with your girls. If you're looking for ideas, why not try a themed night (did someone say Mexican and mocktails?), a banquet where everyone brings something to share, or if you’re feeling fancy, why not try a fabulous three course meal. Just ask your Girls’ Night In guests to donate the cost of a meal out or if you want to do something fun, let your guests donate what they think they should pay for the meal!

6 – Can't catch up in person? Why not take your Girls’ Night In online and host virtually. Getting the girls together online is a great way to reconnect with friends in different states or countries and support women impacted by cancer. You can play games, catch up on all the goss or even press play and watch a movie together.

These are all great ways to host your Girls’ Night In on Saturday 24 October. If you need more inspiration or support to host an event or Girls' Night In in support of South Australians impacted by cancer, visit https://www.cancersa.org.au/get-involved/ or call 1300656585.
