Proudly supporting Cancer Council
The 2020 Heaven Can Wait Charity Sailing Regatta raised $41,000 for Cancer Council and has funded domestic assistance to more than 40 people. This is the 15th year of the Heaven Can Wait Charity Sailing Regatta and our fundraising target in 2021 is $48,000.
The Heaven Can Wait
24 hour race was conceived and inaugurated by Lake Macquarie resident, keen sailor and cancer survivor Shaun Lewicki as a major annual sailing event on the lake to promote the sport of sailing and the Lake Macquarie/Newcastle/Hunter region and to raise funds for cancer research.
Research has significantly improved the recovery rates of cancer patients, and therefore, so has the need to focus on helping those patients through their recovery.
The Home Help Program run by the Hunter Branch of Cancer Council NSW has assisted some 40 patients over the past 12 months.
In 2020, $41,000 was raised for the Home Help Program and in total since its inception, the regatta has raised in excess of $300,000. Heaven Can Wait will celebrate its 15th year in 2021 and hopes to raise $48,000

The Heaven Can Wait Charity Sailing Regatta has grown to include events that cater for dinghy sailors as well as smaller yachts that may not be able to complete a dash around the lake within the time limit. It will again be a part of a much larger aquatic event on Lake Macquarie – Lakefest. Lakefest is a collaboration between The Royal Motor Yacht Club Toronto, Wangi Amateur Sailing Club, Belmont 16’s, Rotary Toronto Sunrise and the Lake Macquarie Classic Boat Association. Most of the events that make up Lakefest, not only raise money for needy
