I’m getting active this May to say one thing: F Cancer.

I’ll be getting active for 31 minutes a day for 31 days to raise funds for everyone we know and love who has been impacted by cancer.

Cancer affects almost 1 in 2 Australians by the age of 85. My beautiful mum was one of them. So when I say F Cancer, it’s personal.

By donating to my challenge, you’ll be helping fund world-class cancer research, prevention programs and support services through Cancer Council, supporting people affected by cancer before, during and after treatment.

One thing I learnt during Mum’s journey was just how limited support services can be. Mum’s bowel cancer sadly spread to her brain, something that happens in less than 3% of cases, and the prognosis is poor.

At times, it felt like we were navigating something that didn’t have clear answers. We were told certain things might help, and then the opposite would happen. Mum kept having mobility and speech issues because of the brain metastases, which meant repeated hospital visits. She couldn’t safely be at home, and it often felt like there was nowhere to turn for the level of help and support we desperately needed. I can’t put into words how helpless that felt.

What Mum went through, I would never wish on anyone. That’s why I will never stop fighting for more research, better support, and better outcomes for people facing cancer.

I know times are tough for everyone right now, but any dollar counts and helps us all.
