I’m getting active this May to say one thing: F Cancer.
I signed up for this challenge while preparing for my major reconstructive surgery, so life was pretty chaotic in the lead-up to my hospital admission. For the first days before surgery I was not getting out for walks but doing exercises aimed at helping manage the impacts of hormone blockers (which are necessary to help keep me cancer free). I also wasn’t sure how mobile I’d be after surgery so I didn’t take the time to set up this page at the time, considering how time poor I was at the time.
But now I’m doing really well -kicking goals with my walks, rebuilding strength, and staying active, even within my current limitations. So it’s time to catch up on this fundraiser and tell cancer to F off… you’re not welcome here!
The challenge is to be active (on average) for 31 minutes a day for 31 days, while raising funds for everyone we know and love who has been impacted by cancer. I’ll be working hard to finish the month stronger than I started, even if I’m easing into it a little later than planned.
Cancer affects almost 1 in 2 Australians by the age of 85. It could be our mums, dads, grandparents, siblings, friends or teammates. It’s taken my dad, Phil’s mum and my Uncle Dino. We’ve also had so many survivors in our family, including two Aunties, two cousins, T’s uncle, a dear friend of mine… and now me.
So when I say F Cancer, it’s personal.
By donating to my challenge, you’ll help fund world-class cancer research, prevention programs, and support services through Cancer Council - supporting people before, during and after cancer treatment.
Every step, every workout, and every dollar raised helps us say F Cancer louder than words.
If you can, please support my challenge and donate today.
