Paws for Hope 🐾
This June, Shadow and I are taking part in the Dog Walk for Cancer challenge.
Shadow is a 4-month-old Border Collie puppy with endless energy, very strong opinions about sniff stops, and absolutely no understanding of personal space 😅 but he’s also become a really important part of my healing journey.
After being diagnosed with stage 4 appendiceal signet ring cell adenocarcinoma, I’ve been through major surgery, HIPEC, chemotherapy, and ongoing recovery and surveillance scans. Fatigue is still a very real part of life for me, so some days our walks might be by the river, to grab a coffee at a dog-friendly café, or simply slow little laps around home.
The official challenge goal is 50km and honestly, I may not reach that. But I still wanted to try.
I’m doing this not only because of my own cancer journey, but also to help raise money for research, support services, and hopefully new treatments for rare cancers like mine.
Cancer has taught me a lot about the human body and how incredibly resilient it can be. It’s also taught me to slow down more, appreciate the little things, and truly “stop and smell the flowers” along the way.
Every step Shadow and I take this month is for everyone whose lives have been touched by cancer.
If you’d like to support us or donate to Cancer Council, we’d both be so grateful 💛
