Please sup-pawt me

This June, my dogs are getting what they’ve always wanted—a return to our regular walkies schedule.

Let me tell you a quick story: in 2016, my dear friend Anne was feeling off. Run down, exhausted and like she might have to finally retire from teaching. This was so far from who she was usually that we started to worry. In the September
2016 school holidays, she came to our house for a cup of tea. While she was there, Alfie would not leave her alone. He buried his nose in her stomach and sniffed insistently, and refusing to stop, despite my commands. Anne saw a doctor the following week and was diagnosed with Ovarian cancer. I have no doubt Alfie knew, and was doing his best to let us know. Anne died in 2020, and I miss her everyday. One of my favourite parts of life with Annie in it was our holidays together at her Apollo Bay beach shack, where every morning we would take the dogs down for a long, salty run on the beach. I’m so grateful to have those memories, and I miss her every day.

Life with kids and dogs and other things has meant I haven’t been able to walk the dogs every day for a while, so what better way to get our butts back into gear than with the Cancer Council’s 50km Dog Walk for Cancer challenge. After all, Alfie clearly cares about Cancer research and detection.

Sometimes it feels like cancer is everywhere, and given that almost 1 in 2 Australians will be diagnosed with cancer by age 85, it kind of is.
Every kilometre Alfie, Sadie and I walk is for everyone who has heard, or will hear, the words “you have cancer”, or “I have cancer” from someone you love. And every dollar we raise together will help fund life-saving cancer research, prevention programs and essential support services for people impacted by cancer.

If you can, please donate to keep our paws moving and help tackle cancer alongside us.
For every $3 raised over my initial $300 goal, I’ll be adding a km to my target of 50km.
My top donor will receive a free family photo session with Play Space Photography, and the runner up will receive a free mini session.
Any donor can nominate someone they love who has, or had cancer, and we’ll dedicate a walk in their honour.

This is for Annie, Sallie, Buddy, Ned, Ben and Aunty Barbara. Cancer sucks balls.

Thank you to my suppawters
