As many of you know, cancer has become a very personal part of my life. So far, two chemotherapy treatments have failed, as my cancer has become resistant. I have now moved on to third-line chemotherapy.
Although I feel well and look well at the moment, I do fear that one day I may run out of effective chemotherapy options and the cancer will take over. I am currently on the waiting list for possible clinical trials in Melbourne. Access to the newest treatments could be a game changer. Otherwise, at this stage, there is no cure for me.
Almost 1 in 2 Australians will be diagnosed with cancer by age 85, so every step we take will help change that.
Cancer Council has been a big support throughout my cancer journey, through support groups and activities such as yoga, Pilates, Qi Gong, art therapy, flower arranging, and other programs that help people living with cancer feel less alone.
Walking with my dogs has also given me comfort, strength, and a reason to keep moving forward — one step, one paw, and one day at a time.
To support the vital research and services provided by Cancer Council, I have created a fundraising page. It is my deepest wish that for those facing a similar path in the years ahead, a definitive cure will finally be within reach.
