I’m getting active this May to say one thing: F Cancer.
I’ll be getting active for 31 minutes a day for 31 days to raise funds for everyone we know and love impacted by cancer.Cancer affects almost 1 in 2 Australians by the age of 85. It could be our mums, dads, grandparents, siblings, friends or teammates. When I say F Cancer, it’s personal.

Sunday 17th MayOn 8Dec25 I was told I have Colon Cancer.
This came as a big shock to me as I had very little symptoms other than vertigo and losing iron.
After a double iron infusion I had many tests on my head and heart (all cleared) before sending me for an endoscopy and colonoscopy.
On 17Dec25 I went into surgery and had the tumour (8+cm) removed along with a third of my colon.
After a week in hospital I was home just before Xmas. Needless to say it was a very different Xmas & NY recovering and learning what my ‘revised’ body can and can’t now eat and do.
After 6 weeks of healing, on 2Feb26 I had a Portocath installed in my upper right chest into my neck vein for chemotherapy.
A week later, on 10Feb26 I started chemo, every fortnight for 6 months. With 2 lots of chemo Oxaliplatin (4 hours by drip at the hospital) and Fluorouracil (2 days by continuous pump bottle at home). Along with that steroids and Phenergan by drip and further take home meds.
A big list of side effects - nausea, reflux, rashes, itching, swelling, sleep issues, hair loss, to name a few. With top of the list fingers and toes tingling and major cold sensitivity, bye sandals .. hello shoes and socks and gloves. Along with cold foods and drinks too as my throat and lips react and reject. Smell heightens as hearing worsens.
I got told of the ‘possible’ side effects prior but nothing prepares you for the actual hit.
I just had round 7 of 12 and still learning to adjust to the different me.
From prior being a healthy eater and fit and active with regular walking and yoga and also a yoga teacher, I am now gaining weight and eating worse from less activity and less unrefined foods due to my side effects.
I am not sure who I am now some days but I hold faith in this being temporary, a phase, a journey and I’m staying strong 💪 and being positive just like my blood type B+
I will get through this!
