Dog Walk for Cancer 2026

My Activity Tracking

71
kms

My target 50kms

Please sup-pawt Monty & Me

Today 1st of June, and Monty my dog sniffed his way along 3 kilometers of Malvern street scape to begin the Cancer Council’s 50km Dog Walk for Cancer challenge.Ā
From 13-31 May we logged 44 training K’s !!!Ā
June 1st and the winter rains are upon us and Monty doesn’t like walking in the rain (do I? 🤣) Ā Despite the weather and a few upcoming medical appointments we’ll give that 50k’s a fair Crack.Ā

Every kilometre Monty and I walk is for everyone who has heard, or will hear, the words ā€œyou have cancerā€. And every dollar we raise together will help fund life-saving cancer research, prevention programs and essential support services for people impacted by cancer.

I have benefited from multiple medications that were developed to treat cancers but are also effective in treating my scleroderma so every $ that’s donated will help me pay it forward.Ā

If you can, please donate to keep our paws moving and help tackle cancer alongside us. Because it’s all of us, humans and pups, in this together.

My Updates

Fair Dinkum the June Dog Walk for Cancer

Sunday 7th Jun
Yes indeed Monty and I are off and walking šŸ•šŸš¶& over the first 7 days have covered 17 km.Ā

The big news; thanks to the amazing generosity of our friends we’ve raised $950……much more than I thought we could possibly do.Ā
So let’s see what the total might be in 3 more weeks.Ā
The minor news; Monty has lost 200g so his weight reduction plan is working šŸ˜‚
I continue to struggle to increase my weight however the walking is assisting me to regain strength and stamina.Ā

Life is good.Ā
Thank you all for your support šŸ™

The Walking Blog

Thursday 21st May
The daily walks are primarily to keep Monty stimulated and healthy thus the ’Sniffathon’ routes are his preferred choice. This doesn’t necessarily translate to the optimal pace for improvement of my fitness which means we aim to walk several kilometres and shoot for higher numbers of steps. The downside of this solution is that it can take considerable time particularly when there’s mega amounts of pee mail locations šŸ˜‚
We’ve walked 17.9 kilometres in our first training week and been blessed with the generosity of wonderful friends who have helped us pass the initial donation goal so I have had to up the ante a little 🧐
Thankyou Friends šŸ™

Tuesday 19th May
Destructo Monty has destroyed his ā€˜Indestructible Ball’ so this morning we walked to the pet store which is about 2 km from home. We chose a meandering route which afforded some new views for me and a variety of new ā€˜Sniffathon’ sites for Monty. šŸ•Ā
To return home we walked up the Malvern Hill. The slope increased as did my breathing šŸ˜®ā€šŸ’Ø which caused me to conclude that this is good training for my upcoming Lung function and Walk test. šŸ¤“

The Walking Blog

Sunday 17th May
I haven’t written a blog before and in this instance Monty made me do it.Ā
After seeing my old school friend Wendy’s post of her husband Graeme & their dog Mary I signed up.Ā
We started our ā€œwalking trainingā€ the next morning. The objective was to walk down the hill to the vet clinic and weigh in. I was surprised to see my that my little mate was now 11kg hmmm 🤨
It’s going to be interesting to see what Monty weighs in 48 daysĀ
