This June, Bowie and I are leading the way as we take on Cancer Council’s 50km Dog Walk for Cancer challenge.
As some of you may know, in March this year, I was diagnosed with papillary thyroid carcinoma that had spread to my lymph nodes. Since then, life has looked very different from appointments to scans, surgery and recovery, all while learning to navigate a reality I never expected at the age of 24.
While I’m still recovering from the surgery, I wanted to do something that reminds me that my body is still capable, strong, and that I’m able to move forward from this, one step at a time. So, together with Bowie by my side, I’ll be walking 50km to raise money and awareness for cancer research and support services.
Almost 1 in 2 Australians will be diagnosed with cancer by age 85, so every step we take will help change that. With every wag, walkies and sniff stop, we're putting one paw in front of the other for a cause that matters.
Cancer impacts so many people, not just the person diagnosed, but their families, friends, and entire support networks. I’ve experienced firsthand how overwhelming and isolating it can feel, and how important support truly is during the hardest moments.
