Support our walkies for cancer research
Six years ago, I lost my mum to cancer.
I know the kind of courage it takes to support someone through endless appointments, bad news, fear, and too much uncertainty. I know how brave you have to be when someone’s whole world suddenly becomes hospitals, treatments, waiting rooms, and hoping for more time. Cancer doesn’t just happen to one person, it happens to entire families, entire friendships, entire lives.
In Australia, around 1 in 2 people will be diagnosed with cancer by the age of 85. That means almost all of us will either hear those words ourselves one day, or hear them said to someone we love.
Ever since losing Mum, I’ve wanted to find a way to support the never ending search for more solutions, more treatments and better outcomes. Cancer research is the reason survival rates continue to improve. It’s the reason individuals who are diagnosed get more birthdays, more holidays and the opportunity to make more memories with the people they love. It’s the reason families get more time and more chances to hear “we caught it early.” Or “the treatment worked.”
So this year, Zara and I are putting our paws to work and taking on a 50km walk for cancer research. We’ll be walking for my mum, for every person who has heard the words “you have cancer,” for every person who one day will, and for the families and friends walking beside them through it all.
Even if my part feels small, I know that the money I raise will go to an even bigger picture.
We’ll be doing many, many long walkies! Zara is thrilled at this and wants everyone to know, that whoever doesn’t donate is suspicious and no longer in her circle of close friends.
If you’re able to donate, no matter how big or small, it genuinely does make an impact. Every dollar helps fund research, support families, and move us closer to better treatments and better outcomes for people facing cancer.
Love, Matilda & Zara
Just two girls trying to make a difference one walkie at a time!
P.S, Zara says thank you in advance!
