This June, my Dog Walking business Happy Pet Helpers is leading the way as we take on Cancer Council’s 50km Dog Walk for Cancer challenge, we will go a little extra in the mile and aim for 100km per day.I was diagnosed with a type of breast cancer called DCIS in Nov 2024 , it is a cancer that starts in the milk duct and can become invasive cancer if not detected early.
During all DCIS stages.......there are NO lumps!!!!......no lumps!! You will no be able to feel a DCIS type of breast cancer.
I was very lucky. I went in for my first scan at 44 (only because of listening to Ali Clarke's cancer story and thought id better pop in for my first scan) the scan came back positive!! Thankfuly my milk ducts were still in tact ♡, I still cant believe it to this day. I had a lumpectomy, a dieip flip and 15 rounds of Radiation, I had my one year scan in Nov 2025 with a not very clear result due to very dence breasts, I have asked for another scan which will be an MRI with dye hopefully in June or July 2026.
Almost 1 in 2 Australians will be diagnosed with cancer by age 85, so every step we take will help change that. With every wag, walkies and sniff stop, we're putting one paw in front of the other for a cause that matters.
Every kilometre my clients pups and I walk is for everyone who has heard, or will hear, the words “you have cancer”. And every dollar we raise together will help fund life-saving cancer research, prevention programs and essential support services for people impacted by cancer.
If you can, please donate to keep our paws moving and help tackle cancer alongside us. Because it’s all of us, humans and pups, in this together.
