I’m taking on an epic challenge this October – and I need your support.

At the age of 35, I was diagnosed with breast cancer. I underwent a left mastectomy, axillary lymph node clearance and radiotherapy, followed by a preventative right mastectomy. It was a difficult time for me and my family, and it has taken me time to feel ready to share it more openly.

During my treatment, Cancer Council did so much to support my family and me. That care meant a great deal to us at that time.

I also took part in a breast cancer clinical trial. Being able to participate was possible because of the research that came before it, and it gave me a chance to contribute to research that could help others in the future.

Now, I’m walking 58 km for the 58 Australians diagnosed with breast cancer every day. For me, this is a way to give back, to say thank you, and to support the research and care that made such a difference in my own life.

I’ll be walking with thoughts of those going through treatment, the families beside them, and those we have lost.
