Cancer research
Thanks to our supporters, we invested almost $60 million in world-class research.
Cancer Council is the leading independent funder of cancer research in Australia, and thousands of Australians are alive today because of cancer research made possible by people like you.
Advocacy and Prevention
Prevention programs.
Our early detection and prevention programs help people quit smoking, protect themselves from the sun, eat healthier and take part in physical activity to reduce the risk of cancer. Today Australian smoking rates are the lowest they’ve ever been at 13%, and our SunSmart program protects over 2 million kids across the country from overexposure to UV.
Advocacy campaigns.
We know that sometimes government policies do not reflect available evidence about cancer prevention and access to care and treatment. We bring evidence and people together to help influence changes in policy, funding and legislation.
Information and support
Cancer Council 13 11 20
Every year, more than 41,000 Australians call Cancer Council 13 11 20 for information and advice relating to living with cancer, cancer treatment and emotional support.
Practical assistance.
Our network of pro bono advisors provided over $4,800,000 worth of free legal and financial advice to more than 1,300 people affected by cancer.
Patient transport.
We coordinate an extensive network of cancer support groups, services and programs to improve the quality of life of cancer patients, people living with cancer, their families and carers. Over 40,000 people with cancer and their carers used our transport to treatment services to remove the stress of getting to treatment.
