I’m doing it for cancer!

This cause is incredibly close to my heart. My best friend and co-founder of our salon bravely battled esophageal cancer, and it was one of the hardest things I’ve ever experienced — watching someone so strong be brought so low, and feeling like I couldn’t do anything to help.

That’s why we’re supporting Cancer Council Australia — to educate ourselves, raise awareness, and give back in a way that might help others facing the same fight.

Beyond the Chair

Hairdressing has always been about more than hair for me—it's about the people we meet, the friendships we build, and the lives we share.

One of those people is my best friend, Heather. We worked together for years before taking the leap to open Pl'aus Hair Salon together. Seeing someone so close to me face oesophageal cancer was a reminder that this disease doesn't discriminate. It can affect anyone—our family, our friends, our colleagues, or ourselves.

Today, Heather has returned to the salon she helped build, and her strength has inspired me to create Beyond the Chair. This fundraiser isn't just about celebrating her journey; it's about raising awareness for oesophageal cancer, encouraging important conversations, and supporting the incredible work of Cancer Council.

My hope is that by sharing Heather's story, we can help others recognise the importance of awareness, early detection, and continued research. Together, we can make a real difference and ensure that more people receive the support and hope they need.
