METRES FOR MIKE
Metres for Mike is a 24 hour challenge bringing our community together to raise money for cancer research in memory of Michael Mezher.
A few months ago, we lost Mike to cancer.
Mike was a much loved member of the Sox Up community. He trained with us for years, built friendships here and became one of those people who was simply part of the place.
Before Mikeās condition worsened, Iād actually spoken to him about the idea of running a 24 hour challenge at Sox Up to raise money for cancer research.
Unfortunately, we never got the opportunity to do it together.
So on November 7, weāre doing it in his memory.
For 24 hours, teams of 4 to 8 will keep our machines moving, accumulating as much distance as possible while raising money for cancer research.
Cancer is also something that has had a huge impact on my own family.
Fifteen years ago, I lost my sister in law to cancer. She was 39.
Two years ago, I lost my older brother to cancer at just 33 years old.
And unfortunately, so many people in our community have their own story.
Thatās why, while this event is for Mike and in his memory, we also want it to give everyone who takes part an opportunity to move for someone who matters to them.
Someone theyāve lost.
Someone still fighting.
Someone who fought cancer and came out the other side.
During the event weāll have a wall in the gym that reads:
TODAY IāM MOVING FOR ______
where people can add the name or photo of their person alongside Mike.
Our goal is simple.
Remember Mike, bring our community together and raise as much money as we possibly can for cancer research.
