60km Swim in November for Prostate Cancer

My Dads story 💛

Early this May my dad went into the doctor for a standard medical and blood tests as required for work. He had no symptoms, was still working 2 weeks at a time doing FIFO, and lived a normal life. What turned into a seemingly normal hospital visit turned into a life changing discovery.

The blood test found that he had grade 4 severely aggressive prostate cancer. After further tests and a PET scan, he was fortunate to find out that the cancer was detected early and hadn’t spread yet. If it hadn’t been found as early as it was, he was told he would have had 3 months until it spread to his whole body, and just a few years left to live.

1 in 5 men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer in their lifetime. 86% of them over 60, and 14% will make up the under 60 category my dad was unlucky enough to be apart of. 

This November, I’ll be swimming 60km’s to raise awareness for men under 60 diagnosed with prostate cancer, and encourage regular health checkups to all. Because even when you feel fit and healthy, you never know what might be happening beneath the surface. Sometimes a routine check up can save your life 💛
