Team Tee Off for Charity's Story

Team captain Stuart and a group of his friends are teeing off again this year as team Tee Off for Charity for Cancer Council’s The Longest Day Golf Challenge.

After hearing about The Longest Day on Facebook in 2017, and having recently started golfing together, Stuart and his friends jumped at the idea of getting together and having some fun for a cause.

“A lot of the boys, myself included, have family members who have been affected by cancer.”

Stuart’s family friend was only 11 when he was diagnosed with leukaemia.  Stuart was 16 at the time, and when it happened, it had quite a big impact on him. Thankfully his friend is now in remission.

“Now, any time I can help out I really want to do what I can to support the cause.”

Every member of team Tee Off for Charity have their own individual reasons for being involved, and sadly, some of them have had family members who have passed away from cancer.

Last year, the highlight of their challenge was the friendship and comradery, going around the course together over 72 holes. They split their big group up into 4 teams and on each round they mixed up the teams so that everyone had some quality time together over the day.

This year for The Longest Day their team of around 16 players are participating at Mollymook Golf Club and are renting a house at the golf course to make the most of the event and their time together.

“We consider ourselves lucky that we are able to take part in a challenge event like this, and help others along the way. If we can walk 72 holes, then we’re in a healthy position to support those affected by cancer.” Stuart said.

Tee Off for Charity's Top Fundraising Tips:

  • Ask family and friends to donate before the event using your online fundraising page
  • Each member of the team puts $1 on each hole on the day which goes towards the team’s fundraising
  • Carry a bucket on the day to collect donations from other players on the course
  • Unless injured, any team member who drops out of the challenge must donate $150!
