Rethink your drinks - And do it for the boobies

In late May I underwent surgery for breast cancer. Yes it was a shock, yes it was caught early, yes recovery and treatment won't be easy and will take some time.
While the prognosis is good it did make me think about what we could all of us, especially my female (of a certain age) friends should be aware of.  Drinking alcohol is associated with an increased risk of breast cancer because it raises your oestrogen levels, damages your DNA, and interferes with nutrient absorption.
Everyone that knows me knows I love a laugh and a good time, and I will never know what this cancer scare was caused by, but it is enough to feel like I dodged a truckload of grenades not just a bullet.
Just as importantly the time frame between (free) screening, detection, tests, diagnosis, surgery, aftercare, and treatments has been mind-blowingly fast, caring, and effective. We have some of the best care for cancer in the world.
I'd like to encourage anyone interested to explore Dry July, consider donating so we can continue the level of care we offer, or just consider having the occasional moment of well-being and self-care than doesn't involve the wind-down wine.
