18 Years Later...

By Georgie Jackson

I’m doing it for cancer!

Eighteen years later, I'm no longer a Nurse Of The Year Entrant, but returning to fundraise for cancer research. I’m challenging myself for the first time ever, to shave my hair (number 2), to support my family and friends who are currently going through chemotherapy, and to help the Cancer Council in their mission for a cancer free future.

Because 1 in 2 Australians will be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime, I’m losing my locks to raise funds and show my support.

Please sponsor me to support cancer research and provide vital services for Australians living with cancer.

Thank you for your generous donation. Together, we can free the future from cancer.

Add a Little Dough to Help Cancer Go.
The recipe book I published 18 years ago. With 100 copies sold, this was one of my major fundraising activities. Recipe book was dedicated to my nan, Helen Johnson, who sadly passed away from cancer, during the first year of my nursing training.

DO IT FOR CANCER
On Monday 16th March,  I got my hair shaved to support family and friends currently experiencing hair loss from cancer treatment -  chemotherapy.
So far with my 61 sponsors, I have smashed my $2K goal. With more donations to take place within the next couple of days, I will soon post my final total of funds raised.
Here are some snap shots of my once in a lifetime fundraising activity!

Fun fact: Hair is the second fastest growing tissue!

A very big thank you to all my sponsors so far.
With 5 days to go, I have reached my $2K goal, however I’d like to smash this amount!!

First fundraising activity in 2008

Sunday 1st Mar
Toowoomba's Peak2Park was my very first fundraising activity back in 2008. That Sunday morning, I raised $16 selling ice blocks to the community. Seven months later, I reached nearly $20K. It all adds up!

18 Years Later

Tuesday 24th Feb

In 2008, during my seven month campaign, I completed over 20 activities to raise nearly $20K. My team (including volunteers) managed to raise an amazing $43K. Here are a few of the activities I completed: Five raffles, a Swim-A-Thon, Dress Down Day, Clip for Cancer, Girls Night In and I published and printed 100 copies of a recipe book Add a Little Dough, to Help Cancer Go.

In addition to fundraising, I aimed to educate 1,000 children to be sun smart. Together with Sid the Seagull (mascot) I visited over 20-daycare centres and a primary school and managed to educate 1,339 children to Slip Slop Slap!

Now in 2026, I plan to raise over $2K with one single fundraising activity…Do It For Cancer and shave my hair. No matter the donation amount, it all adds up!

Thank you for your generosity and support.
