Hike For Health

Bunnings Sausage Sizzle number 2!

Thank you to everyone who came out and supported us today at our second sauasge sizzle at Bunnings Glenorchy. We made $740 and did have lots of fun.

Special thanks to Maddie Okeefe, Carmel Thomson, Mary Cousins, Fiona Rea and Emma Bond who helped us cook snags, chop onions, wrangle money off people and generally have a good time.

We are getting closer to our target of $3500 each. Met some awesome people today and we feel grateful to people who made donations alongside buying a snag.

Izzy and Lisa.

Bunnings Sausage Sizzle

Today we got our snag on!

Lisa, Mum, Dad, and our friend's Jack and Emma helped out at Bunnings cooking snags, chopping up onions, serving customers and picking up last minute items that we were short of!

It was a beautiful sunny day, it got to 23 degrees at Bunnings Gelnorchy. The weather gods were certainly watching out for us and we were grateful for such a pearler of a day!

Banjos kingston, coles kingston and mark and macquarie donated bread and snags to our fundraiser. The kindness and generousity of people has been awesome to see since we have started our quest in the Hike of Health.

The total tally for the day was $700, we were stoked with that.

Getting closer to our target of $3500.

Thanks to everyone who came along and for people's continual support of our fundraising. Izzy.

Hamper Raffle

Today I put my cancer council kit on and sold raffle tickets for our Hamper! I made $230 from 3 hours of raffling due to the kindness of strangers and also some dear friends who I ran into on my travels!

Thank you kindly to the businesses who donated to our hamper: Cool wines (red and white wine and $25 voucher, Eben from House of Fudge (LOTS of fudge), Adam's Store in West Hobart (biscuits, tea, sweet treats), Savoy Day Spa (2 Spa passes) and Jess Hammersly who donated bottles of wine and bubbles.

Tickets are $2 a ticket, 3 for $5. Please contact me to buy some tickets or pop up to 9A Oncology where there are tickets for purchase.

Raffle will be drawn in 1 month. Izzy.

Guess the lollies in the jar and fundraising chocolates.

Lisa and I have raised $300 so far between our cadbury fundraisng choccies and the lolly jar comp. We will be drawing the lolly jar winner this week! Thanks for all who guessed a number and for those groovy dudes who just made a donation. The thing I love about working in health care is that people surprise you every day with kindness, even $2 can go a long way :)

Walking for Cancer

Hi, I'm Izzy!

I have worked in Oncology for 12 years as a Nurse. Over this time I have met some incredibly special people who have had cancer. Cancer is something that people often can't see coming and it does not discriminate. I feel honoured to have looked after people diagnosed with cancer and due to this passion I completed my Masters in Oncology Nursing 6 years ago. I also have personally witnessed loved ones go through a cancer journey. Luckily most of these family members and dear friends are doing well, however always affected in some way by having a malignant diagnosis.

One of my passions in life is bushwalking. I love Tasmania deeply and find spending time amongst nature relaxing and rejuvinating. Walking with friends is even more fun! My friend Lisa, a fellow Oncology nurse has kindly agreed to embark on this journey with me. The Larapinta Trail is something I have always wanted to see and am incredibly excited to experience.

Lisa and I trained and completed the point to pinnacle in 2017 together (21km uphill and considered the toughest half marathon in the world). It was a 28 degree day and Lisa sustained heat stroke with about 5 kilometres to go. With some encouragment, gatorade and watching the amazing runners whiz past us we completed the walk together. Our hips were very sore and Lisa looked like she was about to pass out. I feel honoured to be walking the trail with such a strong woman and great friend.

I’m walking the Larapinta trail in May 2020 over 6 days to raise funds for people affected by cancer. The latest statistics indicate that 1 in 2 Australians will be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime.

Please sponsor me to support cancer research and provide vital services for Australians living with cancer.

Thank you,

Izzy.
