I’m doing it for cancer!

I’m challenging myself to shave my hair to support Cancer Council in their mission for a cancer free future.

Because 1 in 2 Australians will be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime, I’m losing my locks to raise funds and show my support.  

Widdy, Marley and I have decided to do this fundraiser together in memory of my Dad, Gordon Love, but also in support of our many friends who have survived their cancer battles or are currently going through one.

Fundraising as a Family

I was a little hesitant when telling my kids that I was thinking of shaving my head to raise money for cancer research. I had no idea how they would feel about it. The narrative that I had been told for the last ten years that I wanted to do this was that shaving my head would make me less attractive. And I let other people's opinions stop me from doing this particular fundraiser. But when the opportunity presented itself again this year I knew I had to go for it and forget about what other people will think.

When I told Widdy about the fundraiser he was dead silent for a minute as he processed things. 

Then he pipes up and says, "That's it. I'm sacrificing it!"
"Sacrificing what?" I asked confused.
"I'm sacrificing my mullet", he said with certainty. "I'm shaving my head too Mum!"

The next morning I spoke to Marley about it. "I'm not shaving my head," she said. Then she thought a moment before adding, "I'll colour my hair though". Thus the family fundraiser was born.

In the past it has usually being me doing the leg work for the kids fundraising, but this will be the first year we are fundraising together as a team. We are so excited to be doing this together and to be supporting such a worthy cause. We hope you can find it in your heart to donate!
