Bec's Quitting Added Sugar: Let's Kick Cancer's Butt

By Rebecca Adey

I’m doing it for cancer!

I have worked as a nurse for 10 years, and in that time I have looked after many people who are in hospital for palliative care treatment. Nearly 100% of those people in hospital for palliative care have passed away from cancer. It is a difficult thing to watch the slow, painful deterioration of someone. You become friends with them and with their family, especially the ones who are always by their side, supporting and loving them as best as you can.

I have had family members myself who have been cured of cancer. Whilst they were the lucky ones not everyone is so fortunate.

What encouraged me to fundraise and support  the Cancer Council was the death of a 6 year old girl called, Evie. Evie was diagnosed with neuroblastomer when she was just 4 years old. Evie went into remission a couple of times but the cancer always returned soon after the diagnosis of remission. Sadly, Evie passed away this week (just days before Christmas) leaving behind her parents and her 8 year old sister. Evie touched many hearts, including many people who did not know her, people who prayed for her recovery and for her family as well as her teachers, her friends, her nurses and her doctors.

To be told that no treatment is working and that the only treatment left for your daughter is palliative treatment must have been devastating and heartbreaking for her family.

Evie's short life is the main reason that I have decided to challenge myself by quitting added sugar for 1 month.

Because 1 in 2 Australians will be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime, I’m raising funds to show my support.

Please sponsor me to support cancer research and provide vital services for Australians living with cancer.

Thank you for your generous donation. Together, we can beat cancer.

No person, but especially no parent, should be told that there is no hope for their child's survival.

My goal is to raise $500 for a cure for cancer, however I would love to raise even more money for little Evie's legacy.

It's time to give everyone a full, active and long life.

Please support me to help find a cure for all cancer's. You never know it could be your life that is saved.

Thank you for your generous donation. Together, we can beat cancer.

Thank you to my Supporters
