I'm doing it for cancer!

I’m challenging myself to get active to support Cancer Council in their mission for a cancer free future.

Because 1 in 2 Australians will be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime, I’m putting my body to the test to raise funds and show my support.

As part of an upcoming vacation to Peru this October, I will be completing the Quarry Trail in Peru as part of the tour. Initially, I was trying to determine on which worth while cause I wanted to organise a fundraiser for a specific cause, dear to my heart and something I wanted to help out with and raise awareness for.

Last Tuesday (5th of August 2025) I received the news that a close work colleague and friend, Dave P had past away, after battling cancer.

I first met Dave on my 1st construction project back in 2004, when I was a fresh faced engineer, having just moved from Melbourne Victoria to Perth Western Australia. I worked closely with Dave and and off over the years at different times, with different companies, the usual. Dave was an absolute gentleman, called a spade a spade, and was much loved by all those that had the opportunity to work with him.

I have got the "green-light" to do this from Dave's loved ones, and as such, I will be dedicating and honouring my hike in Peru to my mate Dave. The hike (which is 26kms (16 miles for our friends who don't do metric measurements) in length), will be a challenge to say the least, but I am up for it. This trek will take me 3 days to accomplish, reaching a maximum altitude of 4,450m (14,599ft) above sea level. It will be a test of my physical and mental resilience.

Please sponsor me to support cancer research and provide vital services for Australians living with cancer. As far as fundraising target to reach, I want to leave this open. I will leave the option for all to either donate to this cause as a one-off donation, or donate/km if you wanted to. I plan in having updates of the trek and plenty of photos/videos of all the hi jinx and mayhem that will occur.

But really, this is my way of honoring a great man and dedicating this hike to an awesome bloke! I know you're be pushing me on from wherever you might be mate! Giving me that kick in the backside to get it done.

Thank you for your generous donation. Together, we can free the future from cancer.
