I'm doing it for cancer!
This May, I'm turning 25 on the 25/05/25 and celebrating 25 years on this beautiful Earth.As I celebrate this unique and rare-alignment-of-numbers birthday, my birthday wish is to walk 52km in honour of those I've loved and lost to cancer. The symmetry and alignment of my birthday date this year, I've taken as a gentle nudge from the universe to do something meaningful with this milestone.
(The reasoning for it being 52km (reverse of 25) is because the distance simply has to be a play on my birthday numbers, and the first options of 250km or 125km were a bit too delulu to think that me, a couch potato, could do that in 20 days - we love a self-aware queen).
This challenge is fuelled by the positive impact that this fundraising is going to have on the lives of patients and families fighting a battle they never chose. By achieving this goal by Sunday the 25th of May, I will be able to step into the next quarter of my life with fulfilment of completing this special journey, and hopefully having raised both awareness and funds that will help others.
With each step, I am honouring those close to me who I have lost to this awful battle, celebrating the beautiful memories I have with them as I walk with the hope to spread awareness and raise money for those families impacted by this unfair fight. The money raised will go towards cancer research and patient support services; if I can help just one family get through this with a stronger support system, I will be proud of what I have done.
Any donation big or small will be gratefully acknowledged (every dollar counts). This is a pledge I hold extremely close to my heart, and I am grateful that I have the opportunity to challenge myself and to raise awareness and money for cancer, because f*ck cancer, and f*ck cancer for not only taking the lives of people I love, but for robbing me of a lifetime of more memories, moments and valuable lessons and advice that I could have learned.
I carry my angels with me over the next 20 days, and embed the strength of those still fighting as I walk for a future where cancer doesn't take anymore lives.
